Overview

Peer Support Groups

Peer groups provide a forum for problem solving, brainstorming, sharing of concerns, successes, and ways to address issues individually and collectively. For people with disabilities, peer support groups can be a great way to network with your local disability community, get resources and even learn helpful life skills.

We all know that there can be a lot to navigate, but you don’t have to do it alone. Finding a group of people who have “rolled a mile in your shoes” can make all the difference.

Visit our Peer Support Group pages for more information about each of these groups, meeting dates, locations and contact information.

  • Open to all people with disabilities and anyone in the community who wants to participate in civic activities at the city, state, and federal levels of government impacting people with disabilities in Kansas and Missouri. All are invited! (Additional activities may include advocacy activities like voter registration, candidate forums, and legislative days.)

  • Connecting individuals with brain injuries to each other and the resources they need. For individuals, 17 and older, who have had a brain injury from an accident, stroke, tumor, aneurysm or seizure disorder, and are seeking to connect with others who are going through the same experiences.

  • A peer group for those who are deaf or hard of hearing. Come join deaf peers in a group environment for fellowship and resource sharing.

The group supports individuals with a spinal cord injury who are seeking to connect with others who are going through the same experiences. In partnership with Mid America Rehabilitation Hospital and Greater Kansas City Spinal Cord Association.
