Blindness Low Vision Experience

The Blindness Low Vision Experience

The Blindness Low Vision Experience encourages individuals to enjoy opportunities to achieve greater independence and access to the community through physical and outdoor activities, art and cultural events and other experiences.

Examples of activities include Stretching Without Looking (flexibility and strength class), Bowling Blind (accessible bowling), Out and About with Canines and Canes (conquer your fear of buses), downhill skiing and tandem bicycling.

Meets on different dates and times depending on activities.

The BLVE has first dibs on 30 tickets to see the Royals play the Minnesota Twins, Thursday, June 8, 7:15 pm game time. Meet at TWP at 4:30 pm for transportation to the game. Beep baseball is an adapted sport for people who are visually impaired or blind. Beep baseball is played with an oversized softball that BEEPS and two bases, first and third, that BUZZ. Participants will learn how to play the game in a safe and structured environment. Youth will also get the opportunity to meet local celebrities and adults who play beep baseball competitively. For ages 10-18 and the cost is $5.00 per child.

The Creator of the 150,000 beaded, 8’x8’Quilted Mural for the Lighthouse of the Blind, in San Francisco is HERE in Kansas City!!!
He would like to work with the Blind and Deafblind community of KC to create a new Beaded Quilt Mural that will be even BIGGER, almost 450,000 beads and 9’ x 10’ for the public of KC to view!!
Each participant’s squares will be contributed to the overall mural. At the meeting at The Whole Person we will be socializing with others, listening to music and creating a beaded square. Maybe even having dessert! All the material will be provided. All you have to do is come to the scheduled event and create.
