The Whole Person has partnered with the Disabled But Not Really Foundation in an effort to provide our consumers with the opportunity to reach their fullest potential through health & fitness.
Disabled But Not Really (DBNR) is a non-profit organization that was founded by Wesley Hamilton in 2015. When Wesley became paralyzed three years earlier, he weighed 230 pounds and struggled with obesity and depression. He also suffered medical complications due to his weight and began to look toward fitness and nutrition as a way to not only lose weight, but to feel happier and healthier. In the first eight months, he lost 100 pounds. Through this weight loss, he realized the importance of fitness, especially for those who have disabilities. He was inspired.
DBNR encourages all people with disabilities including spinal cord injuries to get some sort of exercise, regardless of their ability. Their goal is to raise awareness about Spinal Cord Injuries (SCI) and show the positive impact that health and fitness can have in disabled communities globally.
DBNR advocates for people in the disabled community by:
- Raising awareness about SCI
- Participating in fitness competitions
- Engaging in mentorship opportunities
- Speaking at local and national events
- Promoting health and wellness globally
- Hosting community workshops for all ages
#HelpMeFitChallenge - 2nd annual coming soon!
“Our #HELPMEFITCHALLENGE Give-A-Way is going to be one of our favorite events of the year,” said Wesley Hamilton, Executive Director of The Disabled But Not Really Foundation. “It opens our eyes to other amazing people living with SCI that just need a little encouragement and sheds light on important issues throughout the disabled communities.”
The Disabled But Not Really Foundation will sponsor four athletes who are in need of that extra push to pursue their fitness goals. Focus will be put on hard training and nutrition and its effect on the body. Their goal is to help participants find a new outlook on life while having a disability. Each participant will gain confidence and ultimately a stronger mentality to be able to have a physical limitless mindset.
