Learning to visually communicate using ASL may help resolve communication barriers and aid in building a relationship with people living with a disability. The mission of this class is to teach participants to be able to communicate in ASL at a basic level while learning key aspects of Deaf Culture.
Class Objective: The participants will learn manual alphabet, numbers, WH-Questions, 100 basic signs (from ASL University and ASL That!), basic conversation words and phrases (from Meredith ASL), and Deaf Culture. This basic ASL class is not designed to certify those who are interested in becoming interpreters.
No Voice Policy: The participants will learn ASL more quickly and effectively. Good language learning requires active learning. Full immersion helps develop better receptive and expressive skills. The participants will find that struggling to put all of their thoughts into ASL for these one hour and fifteen minutes in class will have a marked effect on their communicative fluency. Full participation is expected.
PLEASE NOTE: No refunds of class fee once submitted.
Due to the limited number of spaces, your fee payment indicates your commitment to attend class.
