Learn Basic American Sign Language! The Whole Person is excited to once again offer our Basic ASL Workshop to the public. Join us on Thursday, July 24, from 2-3 PM in the Community Room at The Whole Person for an engaging and immersive experience in American Sign Language. This workshop includes: – Total immersion into ASL, designed for beginners.– Instruction tailored to practical signs for everyday use.– Opportunities to practice ASL with fellow participants and the instructor. With over 11 million Deaf individuals in the U.S. and more than 10,000 in the Greater Kansas City area, this is a fantastic chance to connect with and support the Deaf community. Deaf Peer Support Group
Looking to connect with others in the Deaf community? This July, join us for a welcoming and inclusive gathering where Deaf peers come together to share experiences, build connections, and celebrate community, especially during a month that honors disability identity and pride. Meetings are held quarterly—come be a part of it!
Junior ASL Class 2025
** CLASS OPEN TO REGISTERED STUDENTS ONLY** Basic ASL Class for Children/Youth (Ages 5 – 18)Class Dates: Wednesdays from 1:00p to 1:45p: June 4, 11, 18, 25Location: The Whole Person, 3710 Main Street, KCMO: Community RoomClass Size: Limited to 10 (one adult per child)Class Cost: $20 per student **Guardian / Parents’ presence are required at each class. ** Instructor: Micki Keck, Independent Living Advocate- Deaf Services; mkeck@thewholeperson.orgClass Objective: Children / Youth will learn at least 100 basic signs.
