DIY LifeSkills – Young Adults 18-24
Join The Whole Person for DIY Life Skills, a peer group designed for youth ages 18-24 who want to learn and strengthen their independent living skills. Held every 3rd Wednesday of the month from 2:00–3:00 PM, this small-group setting is open to all Consumers and covers essential topics like relationships, communication, hygiene, advocacy, healthy eating, employment, and more! August’s Theme: Employment Tips In August, we’ll focus on key steps for finding a career that fits you and how to identify the skills you’re good at. We’ll discuss strategies for job searching, building a resume, and preparing for interviews, while also exploring how to match your strengths with potential career paths. Getting Social
The theme for August’s Getting Social Event is “Show and Tell”. Getting Social is a peer support group for people with disabilities, their PCAs, family, friends, and other service providers. Join us on the first Friday of each month, or date specified, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. virtually via Zoom, or in the Community Room at the Missouri Office; 3710 Main St., KCMO. Looking to connect with others in the Deaf community? This July, join us for a welcoming and inclusive gathering where Deaf peers come together to share experiences, build connections, and celebrate community, especially during a month that honors disability identity and pride. Meetings are held quarterly—come be a part of it!

We’ll discuss how we communicate verbally through spoken words, nonverbally through body language, in writing through texts and emails, and visually through images. Understanding all these forms of communication helps us connect more effectively with others. After the discussion, we’ll engage in a fun craft to reinforce the idea of how we express ourselves! We’ll discuss key safety tips, such as what to avoid near pools and the best practices to prevent accidents. A speaker will share valuable insights, offering guidance on staying safe around pools this summer. Afterward, we’ll have a fun craft activity—creating Mason jar aquariums!
