Junior ASL Class

Join us for Basic ASL Classes designed for children/youth ages 5-18! Beginning in June, you and your child have the opportunity to learn 100 basic signs in 4 weeks.
Class Dates: Wednesdays from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm; June 3 through June 24 (June 3, 10, 17, 24)
Location: The Whole Person, 3710 Main Street, KCMO; Community Room
Class Size: Limited to 10 students
Class Cost: $20 per student **Guardian/Parents’ presence is required at each class
Instructor: Micki Keck, Independent Living Advocate – Deaf Services;
Class Objective: Children/Youth will learn at least 100 basic signs.
ASL Materials:
The instructor will use those materials and videos in the classroom. “Sign Language: My First 100 Words” from Scholastic can be purchased from Amazon (not required). The class will be taught through American Sign Language and a PowerPoint Presentation. Hand-outs will be provided in each class session.
No Voice Policy:
A “No Voice Policy” allows Children/Youth to learn ASL more quickly and effectively. Good language learning requires active learning. Full immersion helps develop better receptive and expressive skills.
