What Happens When You Contact The Whole Person for the First Time?

You Don’t Have to Know Where to Start

Reaching out for help can be one of the hardest parts of any journey.

For many people, contacting The Whole Person is something they have never done before. They may have recently experienced a disability, been discharged from the hospital, become a caregiver for a family member, or simply realized that daily life has become more difficult than it used to be.

By the time someone visits our website or picks up the phone, they are often carrying more than questions. They may be feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, uncertain, or worried about what comes next.

One thought comes up more than almost any other.

“I don’t even know where to start.”

The good news is that you don’t have to.

📞 Not Sure Where to Start?

That’s okay. Call us at (816) 561-0304 and simply tell us what’s going on. You don’t need to know which program you need or whether you qualify. We’ll listen, answer your questions, and help you explore the resources that may be available.

You Don’t Need to Have Everything Figured Out

One of the biggest misconceptions people have is that they need to know exactly what service they need before contacting us.

In reality, many of the people we speak with are unsure whether they qualify for assistance, which programs might be available, or even what questions they should be asking.

That is completely normal.

You are not expected to understand Medicaid waivers, independent living services, transportation programs, employment resources, or housing options before you call.

That is why we’re here.

Your First Conversation Is Simply a Conversation

Many people worry that calling The Whole Person will feel like filling out complicated paperwork or answering questions they are not prepared for.

Instead, your first conversation is simply an opportunity for us to learn about you.

We’ll ask about your situation, listen to your concerns, and spend time understanding what challenges you’re facing. Maybe you’re looking for transportation. Maybe you’re trying to remain safely at home. Perhaps you’re helping a parent, returning to work after an injury, or wondering whether you qualify for Consumer Directed Services.

You don’t need to have the perfect explanation.

You just need to tell us what’s going on.

From there, we’ll help identify possible resources and discuss what options may be available.

Every Person’s Situation Is Different

There is no single path that fits everyone.

Some individuals contact us because they need help understanding benefits or community resources. Others are looking for accessible housing, employment services, home modifications, peer support, or independent living skills training.

Sometimes the answer is a service provided directly by The Whole Person.

Sometimes it involves connecting someone with another trusted organization in the community.

Our goal is not to fit people into programs. Our goal is to help people find solutions.

Information and Referral Is Often the First Step

One of the most valuable services we provide is called Information and Referral.

Simply put, it means helping people understand what resources exist and how to access them.

That may involve answering questions, explaining available programs, connecting someone with community partners, or pointing them toward services they didn’t know were available.

Sometimes a single conversation provides exactly the information a person needs.

Other times, it becomes the beginning of a longer relationship as we continue working together toward greater independence.

Either way, no question is too small.

You Will Be Treated with Respect

Many people hesitate to ask for help because they worry about being judged.

They wonder whether their situation is “serious enough,” whether they qualify for assistance, or whether they should already know the answers.

At The Whole Person, we understand that everyone’s journey is different.

Our role is not to judge where you are today. Our role is to meet you where you are, listen carefully, and help you explore the options available to you.

You deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion from your very first conversation.

If We Can’t Help, We’ll Help You Find Someone Who Can

Not every need can be met through one organization.

If another agency or community resource is better equipped to assist with your situation, we’ll do our best to connect you with the right people.

Helping individuals navigate the system is part of our mission, and sometimes the most valuable thing we can do is point someone in the right direction.

You should never feel like you’re facing these challenges alone.

The First Step Is Often the Hardest

Most people remember the moment they decided to ask for help.

It can feel uncomfortable to admit that life has changed or that additional support might be needed. Yet reaching out is often the first step toward finding solutions, regaining confidence, and discovering resources that can make everyday life easier.

You don’t need to have all the answers before contacting The Whole Person.

You don’t need to know which program you qualify for.

You don’t even need to know exactly what you’re looking for.

You simply need to start the conversation.

We’re Here When You’re Ready

Whether you’re living with a disability, supporting a family member, recovering from an injury, or simply trying to understand what resources are available, we’re here to help.

One conversation can open the door to new opportunities, new resources, and a greater understanding of the support available in your community.

If you’re wondering whether The Whole Person can help, there’s one simple way to find out.
