TWP's Reverse Job Fair held at The Whole Person on January 24 and 25, 2019.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Instead of searching for an opening and doing multiple interviews at a job fair, a number of employees switched the tables Friday, putting employers on the hunt. The Whole Person hosted its first ever Reverse Job Fair for people with disabilities on Friday. "A lot of times, it's hard for them to go to a traditional job fair and approach employers and share everything they want to about themselves," said Katie Crump, employment services manager at The Whole Person. Job seekers created a display board showcasing who they are and what they're capable of, and employers come ready to hire. "The employers that come to these reverse job fairs know exactly what they're walking into as well and they're ready to hire people with disabilities, they're ready to take time to talk to individuals with disabilities," said Crump. More than 40 people spoke with around 20 different employers. Some job seekers even left with an offer in hand. The Reverse Job Fair was put together by several local groups that assist people with disabilities. The goal is to find a job, but it's also about bringing awareness to the disabled community. "When these employers come in, not only do they get to talk with job seekers but they get to talk to other providers in the community that help people with disabilities, so they get to learn about what we do," said Crump.
