Expressions celebrates artists' abilities and unique talents, enriching the diversity of the Kansas City arts community and exposing audiences to the art they might not otherwise encounter.

How were artists selected?

Artists were chosen by a volunteer committee of arts professionals, who will look for artistic merit and thoughtful responses to questions about their work.

The committee members are as follows:

  • Lauren Kernes, Foundation and Corporate Philanthropy Specialist at the KC Public Library
  • Craig Auge, Exhibition Coordinator at the KC Public Library
  • Sophia Lee, a student at the Kansas City Art Institute
  • Kirby Hough, Volunteer and Events Coordinator at The Whole Person
  • Halley Korff, Blind and Low Vision Coordinator at The Whole Person

All artists with disabilities (physical, cognitive, mental health, or other) in the Greater Kansas City area were invited to submit their work for consideration. Both visual artists (2D and 3D) and performing artists (dancers, musicians, actors, and spoken word artists) were encouraged to apply.
